Those who use the HTC Vive for a longer period of time, even during somewhat strenuous games, will quickly notice that the foam is soaking up. That alone is a bit unpleasant. If you now share the HTC Vive with others, you will soon have a hygiene problem. The foam is changeable, but not really washable. And every few weeks/months a new purchase, goes also fast into the money.
Here VRCover would like to create a remedy. VRCover started at that time with small fabric covers for the Oculus Rift DK1/2 and has meanwhile beside fabric covers for the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Gear VR also replacement for the foam in the offer. These are made of imitation leather and are therefore easier to clean to ensure better hygiene.
VRCover fabric overcoat
The fabric covers are available for the HTC Vive, the Oculus Rift and the Gear VR. They fit exactly to the shape of the foam and are placed on top of the foam. In the case of the VRCover for the HTC Vive, they are attached with small flaps between the foam and the headset.
- Thus, it is absorbed by the VRCover and does not immediately get into the foam.
- Since the VRCovers are washable, it is advisable to wash them once in a while.
Still quite new is the replacement foam from VRCover. These are currently only available for the HTC Vive and Gear VR. This is because only the two VR headsets have an exchangeable foam. On the Oculus Rift this is glued to the VR headset.
Since there is replacement foam directly from HTC, VRCover has come up with something. Here not only simple foam was used, but the whole thing was covered with an artificial leather. This saves you the need for fabric covers and still allows you to wipe and disinfect the artificial leather very easily.
The replacement foam is available in thick and thin. Due to the thin foam the eyes get closer to the lenses which increases the Field of View a bit.
